What can therapy help with?

Therapy gives you time with a trained professional to talk about what is difficult, understand patterns, and practice ways to respond. The goal is practical: helping you handle emotions, relationships, and everyday responsibilities with more support.

People seek counseling for many reasons, including anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, substance use, behavior concerns, parenting stress, and changes in family life. You can start with what you’ve noticed: “I’m worrying all the time,” “We keep having the same argument,” or “My child doesn’t seem like themselves.”

Therapy for adults

It can be hard to make room for yourself when work, family, and other responsibilities need your attention. You may be keeping up on the outside while feeling worn down inside.

Counseling is a place to talk honestly about what you’re carrying. You and your therapist can identify what you want to work on, whether that is handling stress, processing a loss, understanding reactions, or communicating more clearly. You don’t have to solve everything in one session.

If you or someone you care about is turning to alcohol or drugs to cope with life’s challenges, you don’t have to face it alone. Anazao offers counseling without judgment to help you find healthier ways to cope and take steps toward recovery. Learn more about our substance use counseling.

Therapy for children, teens, and families

When a child is having a hard time, the whole family can feel it. You may notice more conflict, trouble at school, withdrawal, or emotions that seem bigger than your child can manage. Reaching out gives you a place to ask questions and better understand the support they may need.

Anazao’s care takes a child’s age and family needs into account. For younger children, support may involve working with caregivers to strengthen relationships and respond to challenging behavior. For teens, counseling offers room to talk and build skills for everyday situations.

Family counseling may also be part of care. Ask our team about office appointments and school-located services available for your child. Explore our services to learn about the broader support Anazao provides.

Early childhood support

The early years matter. When a baby, toddler, or preschooler struggles with behavior, big emotions, or trauma, our early childhood services focus on strengthening the bond between parent and child. Young children can’t take part in counseling the way older kids can, so much of this work happens with caregivers. We help parents understand challenging behavior, respond to big emotions, and build routines that support the whole family. Approaches such as Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) give caregivers practical tools to use at home.

School-located services

For many families, school or daycare is the easiest place for a child to get care. Anazao brings outpatient therapy into schools, daycares, and other community settings, so children can get support during their regular day.

Our therapists are Anazao employees, not school staff. We partner with teachers and school staff so your child has consistent support, and we work alongside families and school counselors when appropriate. Ask our team whether school-located care is available where your child spends the day.

Care that fits your needs

There is no single approach that fits every person. Anazao’s specialized outpatient services include approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which explores connections between thoughts, feelings, and actions; trauma-focused therapies, including EMDR and TF-CBT; and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), which supports young children and their caregivers.

You don’t have to choose a treatment from a list of names. Ask which approach may fit your situation, what it involves, and how you and your therapist will know whether it is helping.

Support groups and classes

Support for mothers

Raising young children can be hard, and you don’t have to do it alone. Anazao offers a mothers’ support group at the Wayne County Health Department. It’s a welcoming place to connect with other moms, talk about the challenges of the early years, and get support. Contact our team to learn when the group meets.

Psychoeducation classes

Some people benefit from learning new skills alongside therapy. Our psychoeducation classes focus on building skills, understanding behavior patterns, and making healthier decisions. Topics include anger management, parenting, gambling, and theft prevention. Classes are offered without judgment, with a focus on growth.

What to expect when you reach out

Start with a conversation

Call our team or complete the online care request form. Tell us whether you’re seeking help for yourself or your child and share a little about your concerns. It’s okay to say you’re unsure what kind of support you need.

Talk through the next steps

Our Access staff will follow up for a brief screening to help determine which services are appropriate. They will explain the intake paperwork and scheduling process. Ask about insurance, cost, location, or anything that could make it difficult to attend.

Build a plan together

After eligibility is confirmed and intake paperwork is complete, staff will arrange care with an ongoing provider. Early conversations help your therapist understand your concerns and goals. Bring questions, too: What will we work on? How will I be involved in my child’s care? What can we practice between visits?

Paying for therapy: Medicaid, insurance, and other options

Anazao accepts Medicaid insurance. Most Medicaid-covered services cost $0 out of pocket. Our team can help you understand your coverage before care begins.

We also accept private insurance and offer a sliding fee scale based on household income and family size. Your cost depends on coverage and eligibility. Locally funded financial assistance requires Wayne or Holmes County residency.

Learn about payment and financial assistance, including what to bring to your appointment. If you have Medicaid, visit our Medicaid provider page for more information about accessing care.

Questions about starting therapy

Do I need to know what is wrong before I call?

No. You can describe what you’ve been noticing without naming a diagnosis. Our intake team will help you understand the next step.

Can I contact Anazao myself?

Yes. Adults and parents can reach out directly. You can also ask a school counselor or another provider to help you connect with Anazao.

How long will therapy take?

Each session lasts about an hour. The frequency and duration of care depend on your needs and goals. Ask your therapist about a starting plan and how you will review progress together.

What if we need help beyond counseling?

Tell our team. Anazao also offers case management and service coordination. These services may help with practical needs and connections to other supports alongside therapy.
